Away (two versions)
This is a new Garth Haines song that I came home and recorded tonight. Then I recorded a rather different version immediately after that. Someday there will be a final version on an EP entitled The Philophobe.

New Album Released
5th Jun 2009 | 08:45 pm
Yes folks, it's finally happened. Sure I've released a lot of stuff, but nothing has grown to such epic mythological proportions as has the Public Domain Project. And now you get to hear it.
Public Domain Project - All Rights Reversed
This is a very good collection of most of my Public Domain songs. Which of course means that there may be a second album coming along in, oh, say 2016 or so. Set aside some money to buy that one now.

I Had A Dream, I Had An Awesome Dream
2nd Jun 2009 | 06:00 am
I had a dream last night in which I attended a play starring
ceebeegee and directed by
jayspec. Presumably it was written by
king_duncan, but he wasn't present. The seating in the theatre consisted of closed bleachers (they were like stairs) made of wood painted black. The stage was mostly bare and dark, with the actors standing out with their bright-coloured clothing. The house was about 1/3 to half filled, with audience members about equidistant from each other. Lots of space out there.
At the close of Act I,
ceebeegee was on stage by herself, with a tiny folded umbrella as her only prop. She gave a monologue about rain, the gist being that we collectively call it "rain" but it's really made up of individual droplets, all independent from one another. Not realizing that they are all headed in the same direction, they live their lives alone and never come together to make a real splash. It was really poetic and beautiful. I can't do it justice here.
Then a sound effect of thunder, and she began to open her umbrella. At the same time the sprinkler system in the theatre went off, and the audience started getting wet. The umbrella, which folded looked like one of those pocket umbrellas that offer no protection whatsover, unfolded to be HUGE and actually extended to cover most of the seating area. Audience members banded together to get under the umbrella. End of Act I and Intermission.
After Intermission, the audience returned, but this time they sat in a number of small groups, clustered closely together.
Takeaways on Waking
jayspec is the awesomest director ever, though he'd probably be blacklisted for soaking the audience.
I'm probably unhappy with the idea that I'm falling from the sky, diving head first into the pavement. Mayhaps, like drops of rain, I should find somebody else similarily doomed and suggest we go out together.

Since your accomplishments are seldom noticed, and you are rarely thought of, you are expendable. That doesn't mean your job isn't important but if you were in Star Trek you would be killed off in the first episode you appeared in. ![]() |

Mexico
In January I wrote and posted this song about people dying in Mexico. Nobody paid attention to it, so now I get to present an updated version as brand new. Clever, me.

The Nouvelle And The Old
Not ironically enough, this song is a bit of new and old. I wrote the lyrics in April of 1999, and wrote the music in April of 2009.

Star Dreck

Here's a blog post listing the questions Paramount asked preview audiences at a screening of the new Star Trek movie:

The comments are sadly entertaining, at least for a while (I stopped reading after 30 or so).

Neil Innes in June
14th Apr 2009 | 08:25 pm
Neil Innes is playing at B.B. King's on Tuesday, 2 June. Everybody who even wants to pretend to be cool should attend. Show at 8pm, tickets are $25. General admission seating, and I suggest getting there early because seating is limited, though you can stand at the bar. I stood at the bar once and it was okay, but I would have liked to not stand.
